I don’t like food much at the moment - although I have a lot of goodies from france recently… my mind is too busy with music. I am getting thinner all the time… When my mind is so busy trying to ingurgitate the quantity of unknown interesting music we have been buying of late, I just can’t find much time for eating, nevermind cooking!
Well i know none of you are really interested in the size of my waist, so let’s get on with the stock…
First of all, Tom came back from up north somewhere (some place called Birmingham…) with more than 2000 cd’s bought from a man who was not only clearly very careful with his cd’s, he also had more than decent tastes-the sort of good records that are never discounted anywhere even during recession and yet we will sell at no more than £7.00.
Also some absolutely brilliant boxets (Eno, Cocteau Twins, Bolan, Barret, Lee perry…some ofthose are for sale on the shelves of rough trade east for more than twice our prices or simply not for sale anywhere at all anymore…)
Right, now the new stock vinyl rack this week :
Personally, my pick in there is a brilliant Big Youth album, I really enjoyed playing the great re issue of Liquid Liquid on Mo wax, and most of all i have been amazed by how out there this piece of Swedish trippy folk called “Huvva!” is :http://www.progg.se/band.asp?ID=470&skiva=1109.
There is a lot of great classic rock in there, the usual Led Zep, Sabbath, T rex, Bowie, Love, Televison, Gong… but mostly, this is going to be a lot of superb classic jazz, post punk, Some Kraut bits, Electronica classics, break and beats, scratch records, Library sound effects, and some pretty excellent rare folk and blues my stomach is sick of having to sell before i can even have the time to check them out… ther’s a few nice warp bits still like NOW’s “Carboot Soul” and Two lone swordsmen’s “tiny reminder”.
Talking about the Swordmen, Mr Weatherall is going to be Dj’ing at the one gig every single of you should go to next week : yes, I am talking about the One man band monster that is Honkey Fingers : http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=69462217798&ref=ts.
I hope to see some of you at the shop next week or (and) at the gig.
Have a very very good week all of you, beware of Mexican flying pigs and if you can be nice enough, take a little time to invite your friends to join the rat records group…
All the best.
Philippe.
Well there’s no escaping the news about the pandemic, we are all facing extiction and soon the pigs will take over the world which was long overdue I admit but what about the Rat fever? Is anyone going to do something about it? I certainly hope not because once again this week the new stock is going to make all our mad vinyl vultures go all weak in the knees, which is a common symptom, before to cough their money and leave with amazing wax remedies!
There’s some great Jazz classic from Coltrane, Mingus, Baker, R. Kirk, a lot of superb Folk Rock from the likes of Tim Buckley, Nick Drake and John Renbourn, some Indie from Galaxie 500, Primal Scream, Add N to X, Jane’s Addiction, Jesus & Mary Chain etc ; Electronic music is well represented by some Mo Wax and Warp classic from RedSnapper, Nightamres on Wax, Autechre or Bogdan Radzinski between others and also a few great pieces of classic Ambient including all the best Enos……
Then there’s the reggae and this is where I expect to face some erratic behaviour from some of our customers when they will come across somke of the pieces in there : Frankie Paul, Smiley Cuture (police officer…) Valentine’s brothers (money’s too tight), Greg Isaacs, Fred Mc Gregor, Heptones, african princess, Twinkle brothers, Ras Sam Brown, The upsetter… wow, I am going to stop here because this ios making me feel some weird symptoms myself….
Also to finish we’ll put a few really amazing records we’d get 3 or 4 times the money we’ll charge in the shop… that’s another symptom of rat fever : classics from Caravan, Zappa, Tubby Hayes orchestra, Cosmic Couriers (Kosmische Musik), Capability Brown, Little Walter, Velvet Underground and a few originals from the Stones and the Fab four from Liverpool…
Our stock of cd’s is also awesome (especially some great Indie, blues and soul) and as usually, the prices are well below anything you’d find anywhere in the universe.
So I look forward to see some of you for the Saturday Rat fever and once again, I’ll apply a 10% discount to anyone spending over £20.
One last thing, we will not be opened Monday because it’s Bank Holiday and even us little rats need resting some time.
All the best to you all.
