First of all thanks to everyone who has made it down to the shop this week, it’s nice to see some new faces, especially those leaving with a bargain in their bag and a big grin on their face! At moments like these we really feel good about this job!

So this week is more of the same really….the personal collection of the sampling mad Stereo Mc’s. These guys were given cash by mad record company executives to buy records all over the world so they could rip them off to make nice loops. And now we got those here in the shop… coming out over the next few weeks.

So this week that’s a lot of reggae twelves and 7 inches coming out from Greensleeves, Mad house, studio 1, mostly reissues but in really good condition.

Also Hip Hop, Funk, House, Soul and Disco are well represented-a lot of classic albums but also a big amount of obscure gems… Strictly Rhythm, Easy Street, Cash Money and Marvellous, Parliament… Sir Coxson sound, Azimuth, Some Nuggets compilations… Big cheese all stars, the last poets… most of these records I’ve never seen before and might never see again.

We also bought a bit more classic D&B and that is mostly the nice soulful side of the spectrum this time around… Creative source, Peshay, A lot of Good Looking Recs and Moving Shadow. All in perfect nick.

Plenty of good rock and and 90’s indie too. Some of it pretty obscure but also some familiar 70’s classics often only seen on re issues and here in their glorious original gatefolds with no sign of a bar code!

A lot of weird or rare soundtracks, sound effect records and psyche, 70’s electronic, 80’s industrial and post punk, some 90’s dance 12’s and Lp’s from warp and Ninja….. right, you got the picture now? It’s all over the place and it’s some of the best stock this shop has ever seen.

All at “global economic dowturn” friendly prices!

Great week end to you all!

Philippe.

There’s never a dull week working in a record shop, but by all means this has really been the most astonishing arrival of vinyl I’ve witnessed in my time here!

We have been overwhelmed by the sheer amount and quality of the stock we have brought in and I simply cannot wait for Saturday when we’re going to dispatch a mere 400 or so pieces that will make our customers feel like they’ve struck gold!

For a starter, Tom gave a quick visit to the STEREO MC’s studios and came back with a van full of their personal collection… records they had been purchasing all over the planet over the past 15 years and that I could hardly believe my eyes when I browsed through it! Dominic has been in this business for years and was basically shaking as he had the gruesome task to price these;

Deodato, Richie Havens, Fred Wesleys & JBs, Tower of Power, Magazine, People’s Choice, Rotary Connection, LTG Exchange, Donald Byrd, Canned Heat, Undisputed Truth, Edwin Starr…and hundreds of others most of us had only heard whispers of… God I could go on forever here….

There’s pan global compilations of rare groves that we simply had never seen, soundtracks of movies we had never heard of and some records simply so vital for any collector worth the name I feel I could sell my house if only I owned one….

On top of that, we have two other massive collections rammed with classic rock and proper metal from the 70’s, all in near mint condition. AC/DC, SAXON, WASP, METALLICA and more hairy armpits with angular guitars I have forgotten the names of…. but also the better end of the grunge and post punk scene, DINOSAUR JR, MUDHONEY, SHELLAC etc… these are just as you’d have found them new…. totally shiny!

Then there’s the Jazz, a beautiful collection of mostly gatefold Blue Note and Impulse reissues : Lee Morgan, Joe Henderson, Sonny Rollins, Freddie Hubbard, Dexter Gordon, Horace Silver…

We’ll top this up with the dance music and electronic stuff, and we are generally weary of buying dance 12’s…but this time, it was simply too good to let it go : let’s simply say that a lot of those fetch at £10 + on Discogs and we’ll put them out at barely half that price.

Deep House, Classic Garage, Jungle and D&B, Happy Hardcore, Electro tech…. most genres are represented and it’s all rare or fairly hard to find stuff from labels we had to research all week long…. please someone give me a loan so I can get a piece of this gargantuan plastic cathedral!!!!!

Anyway, basically, there’s never been a better time to take a trip down to beautiful sunny Camberwell and leave the girlfriend/boyfriend to grow vegetables in the garden! Time to feed the turtables!!!!!

You can’t always get what you want …..but if you try to come to Rat Records next week, you’ll get what you need-guaranteed!!!

Oh and may I say we also have CD’s of absolutely all genres, a lot of them new, just released stuff of beautifully packaged limited editions all priced between £5 and £9 !

That’s it for now. Great week end to you all !
